A Little Bit of History on the Cottage

Relax in the spacious living area.

New Tracks Rock Cottage Bed and Breakfast is composed of many historical items from the basic rock to its many furnishings. The rock used was taken from fallen rock boundary fences built by slaves in the early 1800's. The center portion of the building differs, because it was built in the late 1880's from native limestone that was quarried near the ranch. The room was used as a milk cooling room.

The exposed cedar logs, oak timbers in the downstairs partition and cross pieces on top of the partition were all salvaged from the old family barn, built in about 1860, and cut in a sawmill run by water power on the Blanco River in about 1860-1870.

The handcrafted bed in the loft is notched and pegged with logs and rails also from the family barn. Many of the furnishings and antique pieces are family items including the wood cook stove, kitchen table and chairs, the birch furniture in the living area, the wooden trunks, clawfoot bathtub, and high back saddle. Other furnishings and decorative pieces are from the 1800's circa, both primitive and southwestern origin, many with history and interesting stories associated with them.

100 year old hand cut logs form your comfortable bed.

New Tracks Ranch itself is a working ranch and comprises a small portion of the original 30,000-acre tract settled by Ezekiel Nance, David's great-grandfather, in the early 1800's.
